The ABCs of Safe Sleep

Keeping your little one safe during sleep is a top priority for every parent, and the ABCs of safe sleep make it easy to remember how to do just that: Alone, on their Back, in a Crib. These simple steps can greatly reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related issues. Always place your baby to sleep alone, on their back, and in a crib or bassinet that meets safety standards. By following these guidelines, you can create a cozy and safe sleeping environment for your baby, giving you peace of mind and helping your little one get the restful sleep they need.

A is for Alone:

        • Always place the baby to sleep alone, without sharing the bed with adults or other children.
        • Avoid placing pillows, blankets, toys, or crib bumpers in the sleeping area.
        • Use a firm mattress with a fitted sheet to prevent suffocation.

B is for Back:

        • Place the baby on their back for every sleep, including naps and nighttime.
        • Make sure the baby’s head and face remain uncovered during sleep.
        • Educate caregivers and family members on the importance of back-sleeping to prevent SIDS.

C is for Crib:

        • Ensure the baby sleeps in a crib, bassinet, or play yard that meets safety standards.
        • Avoid using soft surfaces such as couches, armchairs, or adult beds for infant sleep.
        • Check that the crib is free from hazards, such as loose bedding or dangling cords.

By following these guidelines, parents and caregivers can create a safe sleeping environment for their infants, reducing the risk of accidents and promoting healthy development.
